From emails to banking to social media to shopping and donating, the average person spends almost half of their day online. The reality is that many of these sites hold information that’s kept secure with a user-generated password.

A string of 5 to 16 characters is all that keeps hackers from accessing your information. That’s why it’s crucial that online users implement password security best practices and create strong passwords for every account they use.

Password best practices:

• Create passphrases or create complex password using a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters where available.
• Never use your Social Security number as a username or password.
• Never use the same password on multiple sites.
• Don’t write down or share your password with anyone.
• Use a password vault to store sensitive information.
• Add additional security options to your password security such as a pin number or text to your mobile device.
