Email Phishing

28 February 2020

Email phishing is the intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual through email. Almost as soon as email became widely used, it began to be used as a means to defraud people.

Here are some signs of possible phishing to watch out for:

  • Requests for specific personal information or your username and password
  • Urgency – often threatening to close your account
  • Money reward offers in exchange for personal information through a survey or other method
  • Typos and poor grammar

In order to protect your email account consider adding additional security options to your password security such as a pin number text to your mobile device.
