Diversity and inclusion

A Message from Webster Five’s President, Don Doyle, on Recent Events

I feel the need to speak to you about the recent disturbing deaths of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery. When I joined CEO Act!on for Diversity and Inclusion earlier this year, I made a pledge to focus on cultivating a workplace that supports open dialogue on complex and difficult conversations about diversity and inclusion and to condemn racism and discrimination. I believe that I must lead by example to ensure that both I, and Webster Five as an organization, take action to be a force of positive change. As an organization and as human beings, we need to work together to fight racism and discrimination in our country and our communities. It is time to continue and broaden the courageous conversations that drive meaningful change so that we will truly make this change happen.

Earlier this year, everyone at Webster Five participated in unconscious bias training and took part in some uncomfortable conversations regarding racism, diversity and inclusion. At this time, I am asking all of our employees to continue those conversations and commit to listening and learning, so as individuals and as an organization we can affect change within ourselves, Webster Five and our community. Webster Five fully supports our diverse community and we are making a strong effort to foster a culture that promotes diversity and inclusion. We denounce racism and will not tolerate discrimination within our organization. We also expect our employees to carry our value of respect into our communities and beyond. I have reached out to our employees of color to ensure they’re aware that I, along with the entire Senior Management team and all employees of Webster Five, am here to support them. I also support those who protest peacefully and pray for calm and peace in our country as we Americans work towards true justice and equality for all people and make real progress on this centuries-old issue.

At Webster Five, we support an inclusive culture by acknowledging the unique experiences and perspectives each individual brings to our bank. This kind of culture is key to creating an exciting environment where customers want to do business and our team members want to work.

We are dedicated to nurturing a work environment where employees can feel accepted and valued for their diverse backgrounds and are able to bring their true selves to work every day. By embracing the richness of our unique perspectives, we are working to create a better, more rewarding place for our employees to work and ensuring we reflect the customers and communities we serve.

On February 3, 2020, Webster Five became the first Worcester County based bank to join a growing coalition pledging to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. One of more than 900 CEOs that have come together for CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, our President and CEO, Donald Doyle, committed himself and the bank to fostering an environment that embraces differences and acknowledges the challenges that can be caused by preconceptions and unconscious bias related to race, gender and disabilities.

Webster Five Diversity Committee

In order to uphold our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we have established a Diversity Committee to bring together employees from across the bank to engage in diversity outreach initiatives involving both employees and the communities we serve. The committee meets regularly to discuss, communicate and create collaborations in ongoing and upcoming initiatives and events that support the goal of enhancing the environment for diversity, inclusion and equity across the bank.
